Even Maryland natives may not know that Frederick County is a hotbed of wine activity. The Frederick Wine Trail gives wine connoisseurs and novices alike a chance to explore several of the county's wineries. The five wineries that comprise the trail (plus a sixth that will open next summer) total 120 acres of grapes and account for more than half of Maryland's wine production. Each one offers guided tours, wine tastings, and other grape-related fun; and their proximity to each other makes it possible to visit several sites (or all of them, if you're feeling ambitious) in one trip.
